Yemo Park’s work Piece of Heart draws inspiration from the tale of The Dog of Flanders, written by the English author Ouida. It is about a boy Nello and his dog Patrasche, who live in Hoboken. Nello had a talent for art, but the crude circumstances of his life never allowed him to follow his artistic aspirations. Within the dog park, which sits next to a tram line leading to Hoboken, Yemo Park introduces five sculptures that illustrate elements from the tale. Furthermore, Yemo Park introduces a sequel to the story in which she loses her own dog and endeavours to craft a special whistle, to help the dog to find its way back to her. Eventually, she finds a dog in a container park, which has an extraordinary personality and characteristics. This story is a source material for the artist’s new business venture – a dog whistle company. The whistles presented at the dog enclosure are based on the portraits of the animals that visit the park. In collaboration with Merel Schoonen, Yemo Park’s story is developed into a comic. Every week during Publiek Park, a new episode of the comic is released on Publiek Park website, and every weekend, there is a performance at the dog enclosure by Yemo Park.
The practice of Yemo Park (1990, KR/BE) revolves around creating fictitious companies. Each of her projects stems from a business idea for potentially lucrative sculptural objects and multimedia installations, tackling or inducing a particular consumer need or desire. Although the premise of the practice is linked to appropriating the mechanisms of capitalism, it is essentially concerned with the search for alternative systems of economy. Yemo Park questions the artist’s relationship with the market and society while testing out the role of an entrepreneurial subject. The new systems of economy she plays with also propose a new market in between the existing art market and the relevant industry sector her business invests in. Yemo Park’s business ventures include Dogs Die Love Doesn’t – a company that creates memorial statues of dead dogs, Gentle Bite Long Lasting Pain – a portable self-defence sculpture business for women, and an artist cooperation of swimming pool design and construction Deep Pleasure Pool Club.

In het hondenpark, dat naast een tramlijn naar Hoboken ligt, introduceert Yemo Park vijf sculpturen die elementen uit het verhaal illustreren. Verder breit Yemo Park een vervolg aan het verhaal waarin ze haar eigen hond verliest en een speciaal fluitje tracht te maken om de hond te helpen de terugweg naar haar te vinden. Uiteindelijk vindt ze een hond in een containerpark, die een buitengewone persoonlijkheid en eigenschap heeft. Dit verhaal is een bronmateriaal voor de nieuwe zakelijke onderneming van de kunstenaar - een hondenfluitjesbedrijf. De fluitjes die in het hondenpark worden gepresenteerd zijn gebaseerd op de portretten van de dieren die vaak het park bezoeken. In samenwerking met Merel Schoonen is het verhaal van Yemo Park uitgewerkt tot een stripverhaal.
